Black Women's Association
Northwest Suburban Chapter
Our organization was started by a group of women from the surrounding communities that had a common vision and passion to make a difference in the community we live in. We started out in a small store front and spent our first year strategizing what we wanted to do. After much thought we went out to our community requesting support in building a foundation to give scholarships to seniors in the U-46 school district. This was a first for most of us but with the perseverance and knowledge we all acquired through our corporate jobs we forged ahead. By the generous donations and the grace of God we held our first Gala in February 2004. Our partnership with the community and businesses has built a strong support system which makes this event so successful each year. Giving back to the community occurs throughout the year for us through other volunteer efforts. We have graced the Seniors with a Thanksgiving dinner for over 5 years; participated in the 4th July parade; handed out and donated back to school supplies; brought cheerful holiday carols to the nursing home residents and donated time to the local library. As we go into our next year our community, businesses and residents continue their generosity and support. Annually we see new faces and new supporters which reinforces our commitment to hosting our Gala. The existing and new supporters validate our efforts of how meaningful our vision of providing scholarships to the graduating seniors as they start the next chapter in their lives. We could not do any of this without the support from our community, businesses, family and friends. Thank you for your ongoing commitment and years of dedication.
